Don't Mind The Fireworks, Be Gentle With Yourself

We go through life walking in the immense darkness of unknown realities with a little flashlight in our hands, imagining that only what our little light makes visible is real. We generally see and experience only an infinitesimally small sliver of what actually exists and remain strictly within the confines of what our tiny light illumines.

The true power of life does not lie within the confines of our tiny light, but in the immense darkness of unknown realities that are the greater story of our lives.

Our lives are much more immense than we know, and connected to vast currents of hidden influences and possibilities. But we must stretch out into the darkness with the full measure of our longing, and surrender to the greater unknown context of our lives in order to begin to embrace and be embraced by a Love that is awaiting our invitation.

And it is not only an invitation in word but also in deed—the act of offering our Being and the fullness of our lives to the darkness of the unknown currents—eternal possibilities that we cannot control but must instead invite with heartfelt surrender.

If you’re reading this, I hope you’ll be extra kind to yourself these next couple of days.

If you’re reading this, know that you are enough. Don’t be hard on yourself for all the things you think you didn’t do, or all the ways you thought the space around or within you should have looked, could have looked, or had to feel. We aren’t products. We don’t need to rebrand ourselves or set such high expectations for a new year. We are loving, sensitive, growing creatures who are brave every day simply for stepping outside into a world that is sometimes uncertain, unrelenting, and scary.

We are all just kids finding our way home. And if your journey looks different from what you planned, or is the opposite of your neighbor’s, don’t worry. You don’t need all the puzzle pieces perfectly placed right now. If on your journey this year, you lost someone who walked with you, or if it’s another year longer of missing someone and your heart is hurting, know it’s okay to feel and feel and feel.

The sun sets and rises the same on the 31st and 1st of the month, and all you need to do is hold yourself and find solace in the fact that you’re still here. Did you know that your presence changes so much for so many people? It’s tricky because it’s intangible and you can’t always see it, but I promise that your existence shifts the way the world spins for those who love the sound of your voice. Your ideas and projects, the things you want to accomplish, impact the space around you more than you know. Your plans and dreams are valid.

Take a deep breath in and out, lean your palm against your heart space, and look up to the sky sometime today or tonight. Whisper something sweet to yourself.

At whatever pace you are moving and with whatever worries you carry now, it will all unfold, it will settle, and you’ll find the steps to uncover 2022 in all the ways you’re meant to. Just listen to your intuition. There are new songs you’ll dance to, new people you’ll meet, places you’ll visit, and stories to tell that will be so brilliant—just wait and see.

For now, rest your head and close your eyes. You’re alright, and I love you.

Sending puppy kisses from me and sweet baby Zoë.
