We Are Both The Shore And The Ocean

In Dejan Stojanović’s collection of poetry The Shape, he wrote that he sometimes feels he is both the shore and the ocean, awaiting himself.

That wherever he goes, he meets himself further. But it is particularly in the sea that he feels in tune to his keeping himself afloat and aware while still surrendering to the water’s weightlessness, its unpredictable force.

Life can sometimes feel like searching for that sweet spot. As though you’re extending an arm out to a version of yourself or a sense of being, and when you are finally held by its arrival, there’s this existential relief—before the cycle of our growth continues. The paradox of resisting change yet pining for a form of renewal.

There will always be a meditation, a poetry in being by the sea, looking out to it, sailing upon it, or diving under—as old as the world. Being, if even for a moment, untethered—to a place, a time, to oneself.
